Your Online Resume Never Sleeps

When was the last time you googled yourself? What does your online presence say about you? Are you aware of what your clients see before they ever call you? Because they are looking. Just like they research a doctor or restaurant.

Everything you post online about yourself is your online resume. It sits there waiting for someone to read it when they google you.

I’ve been preparing a presentation on LinkedIn and have gone down rabbit holes with books and podcasts about it over the past couple of weeks. I’ve watched agents effectively utilize this platform over the years to get in front of decision-makers and high-net-worth individuals they wouldn’t be able to connect with otherwise. It’s been an ongoing area of research for me.

I read a great article this week, “Be the Hero of Your Own Story.” It was about growing your LinkedIn profile, but I think it applies to all our marketing, bios, social profiles… all of it. It shared that your About section shouldn’t be a diary entry, so don’t treat it like one. Every word should be intentional and written for the kind of client you actually want to attract. It should leave people thinking after they read it… “She understands me. I want to work with her (or him).”

Maybe you saved a seller from taking the wrong offer. Maybe you talked a nervous buyer off the ledge during escrow. Maybe you kept a deal together everyone else thought was dead.

Keep it short, real, and human. People remember stories, not generic sales language. The right story makes them lean in. A narrative that sounds like every other agent is boring. People don’t hire you because you said you’re passionate. They hire you because they feel understood.

Show your reader you know their world. Name the frustration that keeps them up at night. Describe the gap between where they are and where they want to be.

When someone reads your About section and thinks, “This person has been in my head,” you’ve won.

After someone finishes reading your bio, they should know exactly how you help and who you help. Trust creates clients.

What you say matters. So be intentional with every word. The internet already has enough agents whose bios sound like they were written by AI. People can tell when something sounds manufactured. Authenticity wins.
