Paper Tigers and Amelia Earhart

Amelia Earhart was a pretty incredible woman.
She was a trailblazer who defied the norms of her time. She dreamed of making a living as an aviator — but the 1920s weren’t built for women who wanted to fly. Transatlantic flight was considered too dangerous “for the female sex.”

Then one day, the phone rang.

As Ryan Holiday wrote in The Obstacle Is the Way:

“We have someone willing to fund the first female transatlantic flight. You won’t get to actually fly, two men will come along as chaperones, and they’ll be paid — you won’t.”

Amelia said yes anyway.

Why?
It was insulting, but she saw something bigger — a step toward her dream. That’s the difference between ordinary and extraordinary people: they start. Anywhere, anyhow, however they can.

Less than five years later, Amelia Earhart became the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic.

On the side of her plane, she painted six words:
“Always Think With Your Stick Forward.”

In aviation, it means maintain speed or you’ll stall. In life, it means keep moving forward. Always.

Our brains are wired for comfort — it’s why we procrastinate and invent excuses to stay safe. But excuses are self-created hurdles. Action creates change.

Amelia once said:

“The most difficult thing is the decision to act. The rest is merely tenacity. The fears are paper tigers. You can do anything you decide to do. You can act to change and control your life — and the process is its own reward.”

What are paper tigers?
The term comes from the Chinese zhilaohu, which means something that seems threatening but isn’t.

So here’s the deal: start today with action. Keep moving. Movement builds momentum.

Pick up the phone and call your sphere to simply check in.
Create an eight-week marketing plan with eight drops in your farm.
Work on your 2026 goals.
Be present in the office to work, to connect, and to learn.

Push the stick forward — and fly.
